We have fenced play spaces, a dam for swimming and forest walks nearby—it’s the perfect place for golden retrievers to run, play and explore. And at night? Well, your goldie gets to be inside with us—curled up by the fire—just as it should be.

Think, a whole bunch of golden retrievers (53 is our record so far) running around together, playing, having fun and of course looking cute while their parents chat all things goldie. Heaven!

The story behind Inner West Goldies

About two years ago when we were living in Sydney, a couple moved in next door with their golden retriever, Brielle. Of course, we were instant friends, organising playdates for Leo, Layla and Brielle (best neighbours ever!).

After watching the three of our goldens together, we decided we wanted to expand the pack and put up flyers in our local park. Seven goldies attended our first meet, including Harley who we’ve adopted as one of our founding members.

Since then we’ve become the biggest regular meet up of golden retrievers in NSW. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday morning than catching up with fellow (crazy) golden retriever peeps while watching our goldies play!

Inner West Goldies meet on the last Sunday of every month at Bridgewater Park in Rozelle at 9am. If you have a golden retriever or just love the breed, make sure you come and join in at our next meet. We can’t wait to see you there!

And that’s a good thing because I probably don’t need to tell you how much goldies LOVE food. In fact, there isn’t much they won’t eat and it doesn’t even have to be ‘edible’ (except Leo does hate spinach). All golden retriever parents know you have to be careful, because you’ve got the kind of furbaby who’ll munch on anything they think smells tasty enough, even if it’s wombat poo (I’m looking at you, Layla).

That’s why I love making my goldens and their guests these dog biscuits. They’re delicious, vet approved and make their breath smell a whole lot nicer than other nasties they may think are good to eat.

Golden Retriever Retreat’s Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Biscuits Recipe

Prep Time 10 mins
Cook Time 10-12 mins
Makes approx. 12 Dog Biscuits

Ingredients

• 3 cups old fashioned oats
• 2 bananas, medium
• 1 egg
• ¼ cup natural peanut butter
• ¼ cup coconut oil (if too solid you can melt it)
• Optional: add a tablespoon of parsley and/or mint for fresh breath

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180°C and line two large baking trays with baking paper or silicone baking mats. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together with a wooden spoon or spatula.
3. Shape into cookies by hand or use a greased cookie cutter as a mould
4. Arrange on the baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden like a golden retriever
5. Allow to cool completely before serving to your pup. Store at room temperature in an airtight container or in the fridge for up to a week
6. Most importantly – enjoy!!!
